I have made an amendment to the project guidelines. I will require three resources to be used when creating your caption. (This will primarily be helpful when you write the first paragraph contextualizing your item choice.) These resources can be articles found on JSTOR or Project Muse, books, or a selected website. If you want a website to be one of your three resources, please contact me and let me see which website you are considering. The MAPS site can be one option (pre-approved). Before, I had assumed this was the level of research you would need to complete, but after our discussion today in class I feel you should have my expectations regarding your research clearly articulated.
Remember: the best three sources may not be the first three sources you read. You are expected to have three sources which are truly helpful to the composition of your caption. You are not, however, required to cite them in the text of your caption. Whether you do or not is up to you and the type of exhibit you wish to create.
The layout of your submitted captions should be:
1. MLA citation of item on display
2. Two paragraph caption following guidelines laid out in the assignment
3. MLA citations of research
Each caption should be submitted on a separate word document. Please title your documents: FirstName-Caption1.doc and your image files FirstName-Image1.jpg. For example, my captions would be sent as Amy-Caption1.doc, Amy-Caption2.doc, and Amy-Caption3.doc. The photos should be Amy-Image1.jpg, Amy-Image2.jpg, and Amy-Image3.jpg.
If you do not have a camera, you are responsible for contacting me ASAP. A camera phone is fine, as long as the images are of medium or high resolution (choose highest setting on your phone if you have an option).
Your rough draft of your exhibit (caption documents submitted to me, with photos, via email) is due March 1, next Thursday.
Instead of canceling class after the rough drafts are due, instead I want to cancel class next Tuesday, February 28 to meet with each of you individually about your project. I will bring a sign up sheet to class this Thursday, February 23 so we can schedule appointments.
Your final drafts of your captions are due March 6 and Presentations will be scheduled for March 6th and 8th.
I will update the schedule and assignment shortly to reflect these changes.
