Participation Assignment

Write 500 words or a page double spaced on some aspect of the Julian Assange/Wikileaks/Bradley Manning case in reference to the article on Egypt we read for today. You can use "I." This assignment (and others to follow) count as part of your participation grade.

To help you think about these issues, I am interested in your personal views on how confidentiality, state power, and political archives come together. Some questions that may prompt your reflection:

Egypt demonstrates the abuses of state power, but how can American power can be interrogated as potentially hegemonic or imperialistic? Or write back against that view. Should there be people who are tasked with keeping government archives "private"? What does it mean if military information is shared too readily? What state archives do you want to have available to you as a citizen of the United States... or of any other country? Feel free to use international examples if you wish depending on your personal background or interest areas. These are some of the questions we will begin to address on Thursday.

Additionally, please read the articles listed on the "readings" page about the Raymond Danowski Poetry archive at Emory in preparation for our visit to the library.
